10,000 cops deployed during Eid
KARACHI: The Karachi police has finalised its security plan to save the city from any potential terrorist activity during the Eidul Fitr holidays.
“There will be over 12,000 Eid prayer processions, where almost 10,000 personnel from the Capital City Police, Sindh Reserve Police, Traffic Police and Rangers will be deputed,” said Karachi Police Chief Wasim Ahmed, adding that personnel will also be deployed near five star hotels, government and foreign installations, public places and sea sides. “The special security measures have been made keeping in view terrorist threats across the city,” Ahmed told Daily Times. Officers in plainclothes will also be deputed at all sensitive areas, close circuit cameras installed and snap checking beefed up across the city, he said.
The holidays of all policemen have been cancelled and top officials will lead security men in their respective areas. Ebad calls for safety and security of citizens: It is the government’s responsibility to ensure the security of citizens’ lives and property, said Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan, while visiting different markets and shopping centres with the city nazim.
Jamshed Town Nazim Javed Ahmed informed the governor that all markets are being monitored using close-circuit cameras. Some 50 cameras are being used to monitor Tariq Road alone. “We are keeping a strict watch on suspicious people,” he added. DIG Traffic Wajid Ali Durrani said that the entry of heavy vehicles, rickshaws and taxis has been banned at all markets. The governor expressed satisfaction over the security measures taken by the agencies. Khan also inspected ongoing uplift projects and asked for their timely completion. staff report
